Adelaide Women'a Advanced Reproductive Endosurgery

Infertility/Subfertility

Difficulty conceiving a pregnancy may affect up to one in seven couples. At AWARE we can help in evaluating the cause of infertility as well as initiate treatment. We encourage both partners to attend the appointment so that both female and male factors related to fertility can be assessed. Prior to your appointment it would be helpful if you could complete the questionnaire (120kb). With this history an assessment of ovulation and risk of fallopian tube problems or male factor subfertility can be made. A gynaecological examination and vaginal ultrasound may also be of assistance. Following initial history and examination further investigations may be requested including:

  • semen analysis of the male partner
  • blood tests of progesterone to confirm ovulation in the female partner
  • hysterosalpingogram – an x-ray following introduction of dye through the cervix to look at the uterine cavity and patency of the fallopian tubes
  • a laparoscopy and dye studies – this is ‘keyhole’ surgery designed to examine the inside of the abdominal and pelvic cavities and may diagnose such conditions as endometriosis and pelvic or tubal adhesions. Introducing dye through the cervix and watching whether it ‘spills’ through the tubes can also provide information on the patency of the tubes.

Following assessment we can advise you and your partner on the most appropriate course of treatment.
